God's People Actively Involved

Our Church

Founded in 1830, the St. Andrew's congregation worshipped in a log building, the Stone Church and then the present St. Andrew's which was built at a cost of $17,250. At the formal opening, November 16, 1879, there was a morning worship in English, an afternoon service in Gaelic, and an evening service as well.

Until 1898, this church of Scotland remained outside the Canadian Presbyterian Church. After union with Beaverton's Knox Church in 1914, the St. Andrew's name was dropped, not to be used again for many years. Local Methodists joined the congregation in 1918. Not all entered the United Church of Canada in 1925. To Continuing Prebyterians was given the Old Stone Church.

The first pastor, Rev. David Watson, who served from 1853 to 1898, was follwed by sixteen ministers, all leading this congregation in its spiritual growth.

The present church edifice has seen many changes including the installation of electricity, furnaces, stained glass windows, the pipe organ in 1927, a 2-storey addition in 1963, an elevator and ramp in 1991, a new kitchen in 2002. Structual maintenance and upgrades have been ongoing through the years.

Proud as its members are of this 127 year old building, it is the Christian growth, outreach and fellowship that takes place within its walls that have influenced the lives of gnerations of members and adherents.
